Anna’s Angels Foundation launches Web Site to Support Leukemia & Down Syndrome research
Posted: 01-05-2005 :

RALEIGH – Thanks to a new web site recently launched by the Anna’s Angels Foundation, people who wish to support research for Down Syndrome and leukemia can do so with the click of a mouse.

Anna’s Angels Foundation was formed by Michelle Pfeiffer and Andrew Merrills of Raleigh. In November of 2002 Michelle and her husband received the devastating news that their 17-month-old daughter, Anna, had leukemia.

“During our daughter’s difficult time of chemotherapy and recovery, we came realize how little is known about Down Syndrome and leukemia,” says Pfeiffer. “For instance, children with Down Syndrome who develop leukemia have a much higher cure rate from the cancer than children without Down Syndrome—but no one knows why.”

“We have wanted to do something to help other children who have Down Syndrome or leukemia,” Pfeiffer adds. “On behalf of our daughter, and really on behalf of our family, we formed the Anna’s Angels Foundation to support research in these two key areas.”

The foundation, which operates in partnership with Duke Children’s Hospital, provides funds to promote laboratory and clinical research in these two areas. One hundred percent of donations received by Anna’s Angels are applied directly to research funds.

The new web site provides a full range of information about Anna’s Angels Foundation. The site, which can be viewed at http://www.annas-angels.org, outlines why the organization was formed, research information and other resources, details of upcoming events, and information for those interested in volunteering or making a financial donation.
