Posted: 10-11-2006 :

RALEIGH, NC - John C. Pittman, MD, of the Carolina Center for Integrative Medicine (CCIM) and Treasurer for the North Carolina Integrative Medical Society (NCIMS), will be joining a panel discussion as part of North Carolina's public television's "Healthwise" series. The live call-in show will air on Thursday, October 19th from 8-9:00PM and hopes to raise awareness about integrative medicine, as well as better educate viewers about the many complimentary and alternative forms of medicine.

Dr. Pittman has a B.S. degree in Biology, as well as an M.S. degree in Biochemistry and Microbiology from the University of Georgia. He received his M.D. degree from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia and attended the Pediatric Residency Program at NC Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina with an interest in Preventive Medicine. Dr. Pittman is the only local physician fully certified in chelation therapy for the treatment of heavy metal toxicity and only one of six medical practitioners in the state of North Carolina who is a Diplomate through the American Board of Clinical Metal Toxicology. In 1994, he established CCIM, a facility where multiple healing modalities were brought together to help patients with chronic degenerative illnesses. "Healthwise" Producer and Host, Christine Rogers, is delighted to have Dr. Pittman join her panel and adds that his insight should be a great contribution to the show. "I'm honored to include Dr. Pittman among our panel of highly respected and knowledgeable experts," says Rogers.

Dr. Pittman currently provides free monthly health and wellness seminars to the public. Topics range from treating Pervasive Developmental Disorders to providing Natural Hormone Replacement Therapy to Chelation Therapy for heart disease and heavy metal toxicity. He said that he is pleased at the opportunity to reach a broader audience through television to better educate the public about the benefits of complimentary and alternative medicine.

"When I first started in 1994, there were only about three other physicians in North Carolina that practiced integrative medicine," Dr. Pittman explains. "That number has grown and continues to increase as this method of treatment becomes more widely accepted-both among patients and conventional physicians. With the increased awareness about the dangers of mercury and the advances in natural hormone replacement therapy, public demand will continue to lead to an increase in the number of integrative physicians and acceptance by the insurance industry in general."
