SafeHome filters announces launch
Posted: 08-03-2007 : ASHEVILLE, N.C.
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – While most Americans are keenly aware of the problems associated with greenhouse gases and outdoor air pollution, many do not know that indoor air is often more dangerous than outdoor air --- even in the most polluted cities. In fact, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) now lists poor indoor air quality among the top five greatest threats to public health.
Dangerous gases such as formaldehyde and volatile organic compounds come from everyday items like furniture, carpet and building materials. Research indicates that chemicals from household cleaning agents are three times more likely to cause cancer than outdoor pollution. These same chemicals can contribute to additional health problems such as asthma, heart disease and even premature death.
SafeHome Filters, based in Asheville, North Carolina, has been formed to combat these issues with a cost-effective solution. Sam and Liz McLamb worked with leading engineers and an industrial pollution filter manufacturer to develop a patent-pending system that is safe, easy and highly effective against common hazardous pollutants and chemicals. SafeHome Pollution Filters work in heating and air conditioning systems to remove pollution throughout a home.
“We developed the SafeHome filter system based on our own needs,” said Sam McLamb, co-founder of SafeHome Filters. “During Liz’s pregnancy, she became extremely sensitive to chemical odors in our home, and we soon learned that no product on the market could do what we needed at a reasonable cost.”
“It became our goal to produce an effective solution for indoor air pollution that is affordable and easy to install for everyone.”
SafeHome offers two solutions for indoor air pollution. The SafeHome System Pollution Filter is designed specifically for use in air return grills and works with a separate allergen filter to effectively trap air pollution for up to one year. The system can be purchased separately starting at $59, or with an annual supply of electrostatic allergen filters starting at $75. The SafeHome Duo Pollution Filter is designed specifically for use in furnaces or air handlers. It starts at $35 and is highly effective at trapping chemicals, odors and allergens. With an integrated allergen filter, these must be replaced every 90 days. Both filters are available for purchase at www.safehomefilters.com.
