Hunton & Williams Honors Attorneys for Pro Bono Service
Posted: 07-23-2007 : RALEIGH, N.C.

RALEIGH, N.C. – The law firm of Hunton & Williams LLP recently honored 16 current attorneys from the firm’s Raleigh office for their ongoing pro bono work and community service. Hunton & Williams awarded four attorneys from the Raleigh office with the E. Randolph Williams Award for their outstanding commitment to pro bono work. Each year Hunton & Williams recognizes the attorneys who have completed more than 100 hours of pro bono work.

The E. Randolph Williams Award was created in 1995 to honor the philanthropic works of its namesake, a founding member of Munford, Hunton, Williams & Anderson law firm, the parent firm of Hunton & Williams. In the 2007 fiscal year, the firm’s employees completed more than 48,000 hours of pro bono time.

Jason S. Thomas was the Raleigh attorney with the highest number of pro bono and community service hours recorded, with more than 143 hours. Also honored were Angela L. Cottrell, Craig A. Bromby and William H. McBride.

“Hunton & Williams is committed to serving the community and has developed an extensive pro bono and community service program,” says George Hettrick, partner and chairman of Hunton & Williams’ Community Service Committee. “The attorneys in Raleigh have made a tremendous contribution to the community. This year, 95 percent of Hunton & Williams attorneys participated in our pro bono program, but we like to recognize those who go above and beyond. We congratulate the award recipients for their dedication.”

Additionally, 12 attorneys of the Raleigh office qualified for the American Bar Association’s honor of completing more than 50 public service or pro bono hours. Those attorneys were:
  • Robert C. Van Arnam
  • Christopher J. Ayers
  • John D. Burns
  • Jean Gordon Carter
  • David P. Creekman
  • John T. Earwood
  • L. Neal Ellis, Jr.
  • Steven B. Epstein
  • Daniel C. Gunter, III
  • Elizabeth H. Johnson
  • William S. Patterson
  • Jennifer J. Tung
The attorneys were recognized at a luncheon held at Hunton & Williams last week. For more information on Hunton & Williams and its pro bono and community service program, visit www.hunton.com.
