RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. -- David Myers, Ph.D., vice president of RTI International's Engineering and Technology Unit, has been appointed to serve on the Cleaner Fossil Fuels Committee of the World Energy Council.
The Cleaner Fossil Fuels Committee disseminates and promotes knowledge worldwide on the research, development, demonstration and deployment of cleaner fossil fuels systems to meet global energy needs.
Members of the committee recommend ideas for cleaner fossil fuel systems, promote investments in demonstration and deployment of innovative fossil fuels technologies, and work with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and developing countries to ensure that cleaner fossil fuel systems are adopted.
"The Fossil Fuels Committee is addressing two of the greatest problems facing the world -- access to energy and global climate change," said Satinder Sethi, executive vice president of RTI's Science and Engineering Group. "By pursuing clean energy, efficiency and accessibility, the Fossil Fuels Committee can be instrumental in providing solutions to these significant issues. RTI is honored to have Dr. Myers join such a prestigious group of experts from around the world."
At RTI, Myers directs a staff of more than 100 people who provide research, engineering, and technology development services to government and industrial clients and are actively engaged in commercialization of these technologies in partnership with industry.
Prior to joining RTI, Myers spent 16 years in the specialty chemicals and materials industry, where his focus was on new product development, establishing new technology platforms and building collaborative research programs. He has managed laboratories in the United Kingdom, France, and Italy.
Myers has received 15 patents during his career, as well as the R&D 100 and Environmental Responsibility awards in 1999 from R&D Magazine.
He earned a doctorate degree in chemical engineering from Princeton University and master's and bachelor's degrees in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The United Nations Accredited World Energy Council is the foremost multi-energy organization in the world today, with member committees in more than 90 countries, including most of the largest energy-producing and energy-consuming countries. Established in 1923, the organization includes all types of energy, including coal, oil, natural gas, nuclear, hydro and renewables.
