Mooreville, NC – The Mooresville / Lake Norman Relay for Life kicked off their 2007 fundraising event with a celebratory party held at the NASCAR Technical Institute on Thursday, December 7th. Nearly 50 people from the community turned out to learn more information about the American Cancer Society and about the 2007 Mooresville / Lake Norman Relay for Life.
The Mooresville / Lake Norman Relay for Life will be held at Mooresville Senior High School on June 1, 2007. This year’s goal has been set at an impressive $200,700. In 2006, the Mooresville / Lake Norman Relay for Life raised more than $115,000 with the help of 25 teams and hundreds of participants.
Funds raised by the Relay for Life go toward prevention and detection of cancer, research and national support, fundraising, patient services, advocacy efforts and more. The more money we raise locally, the more money comes directly back to our community for patient services and programs such as smoking cessation, education of the importance of mammograms and prostate screenings, etc.
Last night’s event featured two students from the NASCAR Technical Institute who were recently featured on the popular NASCAR program, NASCAR Angels, hosted by Rusty Wallace. NIT Student Rob Flanagan walked 10 hours during the 2006 Mooresville / Lake Norman Relay for Life in support of fellow student Brandon Pressley who has battled cancer in the past, and who is now in remission. Several other survivors also attended the event, whose purpose was to raise awareness for the event, and for the American Cancer Society.
