Triangle's largest Chinese New Year Festival

RALEIGH – Fighting lions, a swirling 20-foot dragon, costumed dancers, Chinese opera singers, and dueling talent show contestants will grace the stage at the Triangle’s largest Chinese New Year Festival on January 30. Held indoors at the State Fairgrounds in Raleigh, the Chinese New Year Festival welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds to celebrate the Year of Tiger Doors open at 10:00 AM and the festival runs until 7:00 PM. Five hundred performers and volunteers bring this festival to life for thousands of people from all over the greater Triangle area.
For food lovers, Gourmet Street vendors sell snacks and meals from all regions of China and Chinese families will offer a cooking demonstration. Children enjoy activity stations Chinese yo-yo and origami lessons, making tiger masks, beaded jewelry and keepsakes to take home, coloring and rubber stamping, and more. Local businesses offer Chinese arts and crafts, clothing, and keepsakes. The U.S. Postmaster of Cary unveils the latest Chinese New Year collector’s stamp at this venue.
Chinese New Year – the Year of the Tiger in the Chinese zodiac – officially begins on February 14, 2010; this Festival is held early at the Fairgrounds to accommodate the large level of interest. General admission to the Festival is $5 in advance and $8 at the door. Children 6 and under enter for free.
