Newland Communities’ Briar Chapel sells out of initial homesite offerings

Chapel Hill, N.C. – Newland Communities’ Briar Chapel, a new 1,589 acre mixed-use, master-planned community in Chapel Hill, signed 15 contracts for new homesites from May 31 to June 6. During this private preview period, Briar Chapel welcomed the community’s first home owners. The initial homesites were released by Briar Chapel’s builder team of Chatham Builder Guild, LLC, McNeill Burbank Homes, Vanguard Homes and M/I Homes, Inc.

“Briar Chapel is receiving an enthusiastic response from people in the Triangle and throughout North Carolina,” said Mitch Barron, vice president of operations at Newland Communities Raleigh division. “This distinctive community encourages outdoor living, cultural discovery and relationships between neighbors and the larger community. Newland and our team of builders are very passionate about the green building and environmental sustainability initiatives we’re implementing and practicing at Briar Chapel.”

Briar Chapel’s first buyers were able to personally select their homesite from Phase I of the 2,400 single and multi-family homes planned for the community over the next eight years. The community will also feature parks, trails, schools and 900 acres of open space.

A second exclusive preview event will be held this summer. Briar Chapel’s Model Home Village will open in September 2008 and a public grand opening celebration is planned for this fall. The community’s first homes will be ready in late 2008.

“Newland Communities and Briar Chapel are rejuvenating the Triangle home market by offering solutions that local residents are passionate about,” says Al McNeill of McNeill Burbank Homes. “Our team is excited to be implementing the green building initiatives that Newland Communities promotes to make Briar Chapel such a healthy, sustainable and unique place to live.”

Briar Chapel is the largest community in the Triangle to require home builders to comply with the rigorous green building requirements, such as the Green Building Initiative (GBI) created by the Durham, Orange and Chatham Counties Home Builders Association, and third party testing done by Southern Energy Management. Complying with GBI and EnergyStar’s strict criterion, the homes built in Briar Chapel will be high-performing and healthier than traditional homes and provide measurable cost savings for residents, contributing to an improved quality of life.
