US 70 Bypass Opens New Doors for Smithfield-Selma Area
Posted: 06-06-2008 : SMITHFIELD, N.C.

Smithfield, N.C. – The US 70 Bypass, expected to open on Monday, June 9, will create exciting new opportunities for the Smithfield-Selma area. The new bypass will cut the drive time to downtown Raleigh by 15 minutes, making the Triangle area even closer.

“Once the bypass opens, the Smithfield-Selma area will be even more accessible, attracting residents and potential employees from across the Triangle,” said Durwood Stephenson of Stephenson General Contractors. “In addition to being located minutes from the heart of Raleigh, the Smithfield-Selma area offers all of the advantages of a major metropolitan area without all of the hassles.”

The new bypass will create a virtually signal-free route to the heart of the Research Triangle. Additionally, the bypass strengthens the Smithfield-Selma area’s ability to attract high-quality residential developments and make real the promise embodied in the community: a neighborhood of the Triangle with great connections.

“For residents, commuters and visitors in and around the Smithfield-Selma area, access to higher educational facilities, world-famous retail shopping, excellent healthcare and other amenities will be easily accessible,” said Stephenson. “Furthermore, the travel time for commuters working in Research Triangle Park will be cut in half.”

As for businesses and entrepreneurs looking for opportunities in the area, they can take advantage of the Smithfield Historic Area Revitalization Plan (SHARP), a new set of tax incentives offered to encourage development in Smithfield’s downtown. Property owners and individuals choosing to improve the appearance and viability of Downtown Smithfield will benefit from this program designed to stimulate long-term investment in the area. Selma has a similar program in place as well.

Located at the crossroads of I-95, I-40 and US-70, the Smithfield-Selma area connects the nation’s North and South and East and West. This already prime location places it only two hours from Atlantic Coast beaches and four hours from the Blue Ridge Mountains.
