Fayetteville, NC -- Fayetteville, North Carolina will be the host city for the 2008 Field of Honor, where citizens will behold a beautiful display of hundreds of U.S. flags.
Elected officials, military families, corporate sponsors, event promoters, and community supporters will announce the launch of the Field of Honor on Wednesday, April 2, 9:00am at the 911 Memorial at the Airborne and Special Operations Museum.
The Field of Honor is part of Glory Days 2008. Proceeds will benefit Fayetteville Cares, (www.fayettevillecares.org) a community initiative created to provide charitable support to our military personnel and their families before, during and after deployments
Scheduled official speakers include NC State Representative Margaret Dickson, City Councilman Keith Bates, Glory Days Chair Larry Clubine, Field of Honor Chair Suzy Hrabovsky, Fayetteville Cares Chair Kirk deViere, and Kara Hollingsworth, spouse of Staff Sergeant Donte Hollingsworth, 7th Special Forces Group.
The 2008 Field of Honor will be erected on May 9 and will remain on display until May 27. One hundred Boy Scouts, community volunteers, MWR and AUSA volunteers, military families and corporate sponsor employees will place American Flags across Festival Park, ASOM and Freedom Memorial Park.
Hundreds of 3’x5' flags will stand 8’ tall in perfect rows and columns and will allow event visitors to walk among the flags and pay tribute to our heroes. Each flag will display a large yellow ribbon identifying the flag honoree.
This living display of heroism will fly as a patriotic tribute to the strength and unity of Americans, and will honor all Veterans who are currently serving, those that have served, and the men and women who have made the supreme sacrifice for our nation’s security and freedom.
