Museum Offers Another Way to Learn about High Points History
Posted: 07-25-2008 : HIGH POINT, N.C.
Using new technology residents and visitors can discover High Point’s history even when the High Point Museum is not open. The Museum is going high-tech it offers OnCell Audio Tours for its three on-site historic buildings (Haley House, Blacksmith House and the Hoggatt House) and its three off-site historic properties (Little Red Schoolhouse, Mendenhall Meeting House and the Mendenhall Store).
“Offering this to our visitors is another way that the Museum is working to reach and teach our community about our local history,” Edith Brady, Curator of Education, said. “These audio tours can be accessed and serve visitors 24 hours a day.”
This resource allows visitors to use their cell phones to call (336-289-4072) and select a number corresponding to a building and learn more about it. The only cost is the use of their cell phone minutes.
When visitors call in, they hear a brief overview of the historic building and its significance to the High Point community. Currently, each tour is short but plans are to expand to include more selections for each building to increase the content and options.
To learn more about this event and to discover what the High Point Museum is accomplishing for the community, call 885-1859 or visit www.highpointmuseum.org.
The High Point Museum collects, preserves and interprets the history of greater High Point to develop, encourage and foster a shared understanding and appreciation of our community through a knowledge of its past.
