Teaming for Technology computers refurbished for Durham Nativity School Students
Posted: 12-08-2008 : MORRISVILLE, N.C.
MORRISVILLE — Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students at Durham Nativity School (DNS) received 15 computers Tuesday from Triangle United Way’s Teaming for Technology (T4T) program. The computers, donated to Teaming for Technology by the Durham County Government, were refurbished and provided to DNS students to use at home to enhance their education. These 15 computers came in addition to 25 computers DNS received from T4T in the past to support classroom education. One of the primary objectives of Teaming for Technology is to support educational initiatives in the community by providing quality refurbished computers at nominal cost to school programs and non-profits. Joe Burgess, manager of the outreach program said, “It is great when two caring organizations can help each other out.” Dean of Student Affairs at DNS, Arthur Jimerson, reciprocated that sentiment, “DNS could not exist without people who care.”
DNS operates entirely on private donations with a mission to help break the cycle of poverty through a quality middle school education. The staff at DNS strives to educate socio-economically disadvantaged and at-risk boys who might not otherwise have access to quality education.
DNS principal, Ingrid Medlock, hopes that through partnerships with community resources such as United Way, her students will have access to the resources to help them become leaders in the Triangle.
T4T refurbishes donated computers and equipment with the help of volunteers. Donations are distributed to local families, school programs and non-profits in need in the Triangle. To learn more about Teaming for Technology, visit www.unitedwaytriangle.org.
