Farmers' Market to Open in Northwest Cary in May

CARY, NC - A new farmers’ market with approximately 20 vendors opens at the Carpenter Village Marketplace in West Cary, on Saturday, May 2, 2009, and runs through November.
“There’s nothing like it within a 20-minute drive from West Cary,” explains Juliann Zoetmulder, spokesperson for the Western Wake Farmers’ Market.
“A group of us were tired of driving to Carrboro, Raleigh, and even downtown Cary for fresh, local produce. One thing led to another, and Western Wake Farmers’ Market was born,” she recalls.
The Western Wake Farmers’ Market has partnered with Whole Foods Market and Cindy’s House Café to host a fundraiser to raise money and get the word out on the market.
”Our mission is to offer quality local produce and artisan foods to the community, direct from local farmers and growers,” says Zoetmulder. She adds, “Western Wake Farmers’ Market will offer fresh vegetables and fruits, meats, cheeses, eggs, honey, fresh flowers, coffee, home-baked goods, all grown or produced within a 90-mile radius of the market.”
The demographic and market research pointed to a huge demand for a farmers’ market in the West Cary area. Of the 419 area residents surveyed, 85 percent said they would shop at this market, and more than half said they would shop there weekly.
“I believe there’s a large element in the West Cary community with a strong desire to feed their family fresh, local, healthy food, yet find it frustrating as we did to have spend so much driving time to do it,” explains Zoetmulder.
For the communities of Cary and Morrisville, the Western Wake Farmers’ Market will meet the needs for healthy fresh local food and provide a family-friendly inviting educational venue through which its residents can develop a deeper understanding of farming and its value to the community.
Western Wake Farmers’ Market Carpenter Village Marketplace Morrisville-Carpenter Road, between Highway 55 and Davis Drive Cary, NC Saturdays starting May 2, 2009 8:00 am to 12:00 p.m.
