Carla Bann Appointed RTI International Fellow

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Carla Bann, director of Program Evaluation and Outcome Measurement in the Statistics and Epidemiology unit at RTI International, has been appointed to the RTI Fellow Program at the Fellow level by President and CEO Victoria Haynes.
Bann joined RTI in 1999 and was named director of Program Evaluation and Outcome Measurement in 2005.
Bann has served as a psychometrician or statistician for several large data coordinating centers focused on improving maternal and child health outcomes. These include the Global Network for Women's and Children's Health Research, the Neonatal Research Network and the Maternal Lifestyle Study.
She has also led or participated in numerous studies focused on development and psychometric evaluation of measures, particularly in the areas of health-related quality of life and informed decision making.
Additionally, Bann has been asked to provide her statistical and psychometric expertise as a grant reviewer for several National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) special emphasis panels.
Bann has authored or co-authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications in her field, in such journals as Pediatrics, Medical Care, Quality of Life Research, Women and Health, and Health Care for Women International. She has published in other venues as well, a recent example being the chapter on Medicare in the 2009 Encyclopedia of Medical Decision Making from Sage Publications.
Bann serves as associate editor for Quality of Life Research, and as a review panel member for the Journal of Obstetric, Gynecologic, and Neonatal Nursing. She has also served on the editorial board of RTI Press.
Bann previously worked as a research assistant for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the department of psychology, and as a statistical consultant for The Measurement Group, based in Culver City, Cal.
Bann holds a doctorate and master's degree, both in quantitative psychology, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Arizona State University.
