DataChambers Builds New Charlotte Tape Vault to Protect Electronic Business Records
Posted: 07-13-2009 : WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – DataChambers, a North Carolina-headquartered records management and technology firm, today announced it has built a new highly secure, climate-controlled tape vault at Ridge Creek Business Park in Charlotte.
The 900-square-foot facility represents a $250,000 investment and will be used to protect electronic records and backup files for area businesses. General contractor for the project was DSS Corporation of Charlotte. “Studies show that companies losing critical data to a computer failure, natural disaster, virus or hacker will find it hard to recover and are at risk of going out of business,” said Chris Kelley, DataChambers chief operations officer. “Regularly backing up mission-critical files and storing them in a safe and secure environment where they are readily accessible can make all the difference. It ensures your business can continue to operate seamlessly, even when the unexpected happens.”
Offsite storage also helps companies comply with laws and regulations governing information protection and recovery, Kelley noted, including the Sarbanes Oxley Act and Federal Rules for Civil Procedure.
The new DataChambers vault is actively monitored around the clock and is designed to withstand intense, high-temperature fires. The structure complements an existing tape vault at DataChambers headquarters in Winston-Salem, where the company stores approximately 150,000 backup tapes for more than 150 clients.
One of those companies is Brooks, Pierce, McLendon, Humphrey & Leonard LLP, a North Carolina-based law firm. The company works in an information-intensive business where ready access to data can have a significant impact on client services.
“It’s imperative that we routinely backup our files and store them securely,” said David Caton, assistant network administrator for Brooks Pierce. “We chose to work with DataChambers based on their reputation for excellent client service, and they have more than lived up to that reputation. Their offsite storage and reliable daily pickup service allow me to do my job more efficiently and effectively.”
DataChambers established a presence in Charlotte last spring when it opened an 85,000-square-foot office at Ridge Creek Business Park. The company provides a variety of information-based services to area businesses – from file storage and document imaging to hosting and managing computer systems.
