Posted: 09-21-2009 : RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Dave Ensor, Ph.D., a senior fellow at RTI International, has received a Meritorious Service Award by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in recognition of his contributions to ANSI and to the voluntary standardization community.
Ensor was commended for his work and dedication in various standards activities over many years. "He is a valuable U.S. representative and leader at the international level and a most capable diplomat whose efforts advance the development and implementation of voluntary consensus standards worldwide," according to his award nomination.
Ensor is a contributor to and leader in the ANSI-accredited U.S. technical advisory group on nanotechnology standards and serves as a U.S. delegate to international ISO nanotechnology standards meetings. He chairs a strategy group on materials specifications and has collaborated with U.S. and international experts to develop a plan to ensure that this group will develop standards useful for international commerce. He also serves as co-convenor of a nanotechnology working group in an ISO committee on cleanrooms and associated controlled environments.
Ensor has more than 35 years of experience in aerosol science and research. He is recognized internationally as a leading expert in filtration, indoor air quality, nanotechnology and cleanroom technology and founded the American Association for Aerosol Research and the research journal Aerosol Science and Technology. Ensor was elected an AAAR Fellow in 2008.
Earlier this year, Ensor was awarded the 2009 James R. Mildon Award by the Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology for his contributions to the advancement and increase of knowledge in the field of aerosol contamination control and, particularly, new standards in nanotechnologies.
The ANSI award will be presented to Ensor at a ceremony Oct. 6 in Bethesda, Md.
ANSI serves as the voice of the U.S. standards and conformity assessment system. As described on the ANSI Web site, ANSI empowers its members and constituents to strengthen the U.S. marketplace position in the global economy while helping to assure the safety and health of consumers and the protection of the environment.
