RALEIGH, N.C. – David N. Levinson has been named to the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Ethics in Public Service, executive Director Les Merritt has announced. Levinson, a well-known business and civic leader who now resides in North Carolina, is originally from Delaware. He was Delaware’s Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in 1982.

“In my view, ethics in public service consists not in just avoiding wrongdoing in office -- or misuse of position -- but also in avoiding the misuse of power to the detriment of free enterprise and entrepreneurship - or abuse of position,” says Levinson. “There are government agencies and servants aplenty who either fail to act for the greater good of those exercising their right to creative freedom or actively interfere with economic progress by erecting and enforcing senseless bureaucratic obstacles. One need not be a political conservative in order to believe in and act upon principles of governance that promote social, responsible free enterprise. American public servants must embrace this obligation to make entrepreneurship more effective as the means to a greater good for all our people.”

“David Levinson has a wealth of political, civic and business experience that will strengthen our efforts to bring a new level of integrity and accountability to America’s public institutions,” says former N.C. State Auditor Les Merritt, the Foundation’s co-founder and executive director. “We are pleased to have him on board.”

David N. Levinson has been a real estate developer and builder for over 40 years and has overseen 17 development projects. He served as the Insurance Commissioner of Delaware for two terms. Levinson has also overseen two international projects: one in Eastern Europe and the other in Belize. He also started an educational initiative known as the Micah Project/Hummingbird City at Washington University in St. Louis. At St. Andrew's School, the Levinson History Lecture is named in honor of him. Mr. Levinson served on the federal commission under Presidents Reagan and Bush that developed the standard forms of Medicare Supplement Insurance and ensured that all states adopted these standard forms. He was Delaware's Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate in 1982 and served on President Carter's Council for Energy Efficiency. Levinson’s community service includes chairing the Delmarva Branch of the National Eagle Association for Boy Scouts of America, chairing the committee to build a new blood donation center in Delaware, instituting a program for adoption of Russian children with Pearl S. Buck International and participating with Kiwanis and Rotary International. He served as the Director of the Jewish Federations of Delaware and St. Louis and as Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee of the National Leadership Advisory Committee for the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith.

Levinson is currently president of Anderson Creek, Inc. He received his bachelors’ degree and law degree from Harvard University.
