Six Triangle Companies Honored for Outstanding Community Support by United Way of North Carolina

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Six local companies were honored today for their outstanding contributions to United Way of the Greater Triangle, during the annual Spirit of North Carolina Excellence Awards in Pinehurst, N.C. last week. The award ceremony was sponsored by United Way of North Carolina, a member-supported, nonprofit organization whose purpose is to serve the 63 local United Way organizations through advocacy on behalf of health & human services issues in North Carolina. Craig Chancellor, president and CEO of United Way of the Greater Triangle, is a board member of UWNC.
United Way of North Carolina annually sponsors the Spirit of North Carolina Excellence Awards in order to provide statewide recognition for companies and their employees for outstanding community commitment and support through their involvement in local United Way campaigns.
The Corporate Spirit Award highlights the overall organization’s commitment to United Way and the community through management and leadership involvement and support, generous corporate contributions of dollars and resources, and by demonstrating a year-round commitment to United Way. To be nominated is an achievement. To win is to be the best of the best.
Receiving repeat Corporate Spirit Awards were local companies SunTrust Bank, Inc., The Redwoods Group and Rex Healthcare, while GlaxoSmithKline and Syngenta Biotechnology Inc. each received their first Corporate Spirit Award.
The Employee Spirit Award recognizes the generous support of organizational employees who express their dedication to the community through the United Way campaign as demonstrated by per capita giving, participation levels, volunteerism and a high level of enthusiasm and lasting commitment to United Way.
Receiving Employee Spirit Awards were Duke Raleigh Hospital and Syngenta Biotechnology Inc.
All 30 North Carolina Spirit Award recipients’ applications and year-round campaign strategies for United Way were also profiled in a social event preceding the award ceremony.
