Capstrat Social Media Manager Helps Keep Communities Connected
Posted: 03-25-2010 : RALEIGH, N.C.

Raleigh, N.C. – Communities are making more and more use of social media to enrich people’s lives. Yet it’s hard for many communities to keep pace with the explosive growth in information volume and technology – and money is only part of the answer.

On March 25, Capstrat Social Media Manager Angela Connor will discuss “Using Social Media to Share Community Ideas in Creative Ways” as part of the 2010 Knight Community Information Challenge Boot Camp at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism.

Grants from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation help ensure that everyone in a community has the information necessary to make decisions about their governments and their lives. In 2010, the foundation is awarding a total of $4.3 million to the people and groups behind 24 innovative ideas to help meet America’s information needs

Before Connor began overseeing social media strategy for Capstrat, she authored 18 Rules of Community Engagement: A Guide for Building Relationships and Connecting with Customers Online. During more than 16 years working in broadcast, print and online news, her achievements included growing WRAL-TV’s online community to 15,000 members and creating policies to manage user-generated content. Connor's strategies for building and growing successful online communities have been adopted by community managers from Australia to the United Kingdom.
